Same Story, Sv/Spn Drabble
Title: Same Story
Rating: G
Fandom: Smallville/Supernatural
Character(s): Chloe Sullivan, John Winchester
AU drabble, takes place after Spn season 1. I think I'm going to write that fic I've been wanting to...and thought it might help to 'test the waters' with the little stuff first.
“So, before the demon came after your family, you knew nothing about hunting?”
Chloe, who had been watching the passing scenery, let the corners of her mouth lift up slowly. “You know, I was wondering how long it would be before the friendly questioning began…which is why Dean and Sam were given a break from lugging me around in the backseat.”
John looked over at her before returning his gaze to the road again.
“And no—I didn’t. The demon was that large, enlightening flashlight that showed me what really stalked around in the dark.”
“We’ve only worked one case but I can tell you’re a decent hunter. Surviving on your own for four years isn’t a small achievement.”
It wasn't an achievement at all. She hadn’t truly survived, now had she? She was a freak of manipulated nature. It didn’t bother her now. After everything she’d come across…normal wasn’t normal in her world now. And the truth was, if she had been ordinary, she would have been a pile of rotting skin and bones two months from the day she officially cut all ties and left Smallville.
So, no. It hadn’t really been surviving. More like a surreal routine of death and resurrection.
“The motivation I have for surviving is very strong. I’m not a hunter, Mr. Winchester. Not like you or any of the other hunters out there. What’s kept me alive till now are my super-abilities and being a good investigator.” Something clicked before she turned to face him. “You want to talk about what I saw when you were preparing that summoning ritual.”
“What did you see?” John asked, slightly put on guard.
“That you know a lot more about the demon than I’m just realizing you’ve told Dean and Sam.”
“And I’d like to keep it that way.” He sighed, “They don’t need to know—I’m protecting them.”
“Hey, they’re your family, your children. As far as I see it, it’s not my business.” She paused, hesitant to bring up her next question. “On the other hand, is there something more you know that you wouldn’t care telling me?”
Her expression was imploring yet careful. And he feels a familiar remorse noticing how young she looks and what kind of life she has. The same kind of life Sam and Dean have had for most of their lives.
Except she had been all alone.
“Other than its true identity…no, nothing else."
